ASUS ROG GX700

ASUS ROG GX700 Review – Taking portable gaming to the next level, the ASUS ROG GX700 is sure to impress the gamers with its powerful desktop-level hardware and water-cooling solution on a portable form factor.

It wasn’t long ago when laptops just weren’t meant for hardcore gaming, they were manufactured to allow users to work on-the-go. But the world has entered a new generation, which allows a user to achieve portability or a smaller form factor but still able to get great performance. It wouldn’t be too far-fetched to say that the ASUS ROG GX700 can be called one of the kings of portable gaming. Sporting a 17.3-inch Full HD IPS display that is big enough for you to enjoy movies and definitely gaming sessions. The powerful NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 found inside is not an ‘‘M” variation of the card and has the same performance as its desktop variation. The graphic card is ready for VR when available, and is capable of 1080p gaming without a hitch.

The GX700 also sports an Intel Core i7-6820HK processor, 32GB of DDR4 2400MHz RAM and four SSD’s with RAID0 support. All this powerful hardware gave us a lag-free experience when doing anything and everything on the GX700. The laptop has an overclock button to boost its performance and should be used together with the water-cooling dock provided. When running benchmarks and stress tests, the laptop maxed out at 61-62C which is pretty amazing. Although the watercooling dock is audibly working hard to expel all that air, and there are some hotspots on the keyboard.

What we were a bit disappointed in was that the water-cooling dock wasn’t very portable. The dock is portable enough for carrying to LAN parties, but definitely not something you would lug around when travelling or bringing back and forth to class or the office.

When it comes to gaming, of course with all that powerful hardware and all the while being overclocked, the GX700 games like a beast. Like mentioned before the laptop is capable of gaming at 1080p with no problems, even with some of the latest triple-A titles.

If you have the budget and looking for a laptop to replace a desktop, there shouldn’t be any better choice than the ASUS ROG GX700. It has excellent performance and aesthetics, but you’ll probably be leaving your water-cooling dock on your desk at home.
