ASUS FonePad Note 6

ASUS FonePad Note 6 Review – When phablets first made it to the market, it was exclusive to a certain Korean brand. To date, said Korean brand is still the go-to manufacturer when it comes to phablets but then not everyone is able to afford that very premium price tag. While there have been many other phablets from different manufacturers, none come close to the top-dog in the phablet category, until now, thanks to ASUS and their Fonepad Note 6.

As the name suggests, this device comes with a stylus and not just a passive/ capacitive stylus but an active/digitiser stylus and is surprisingly very good as it is able to detect levels of pressure and has very good recognition. This makes it a great tool for those who love sketching, photo editing and hand writing on their phones. Other than the stylus, the Fonepad Note 6 also shares yet another similarity to most phablets, size. This device is quite frankly large than life and to us, it’s a 50-50 thing. We liked the fact that the 6-inch display is large and vibrant and makes watching movies, playing games and reading emails a charm. What we didn’t quite like is the fact that it is actually quite bulky and hefty and a little uncomfortable to hold especially for those with smaller hands. The other thing that some users may not like is the fact that its body is actually very glossy and plasticky. That aside, ASUS have packed in quite a good set of features to the device such as a large 3,200mAh battery, microSD card slot and an 8MP rear camera. The camera actually takes photos that are just a little noisy and a little warmer when under bright conditions.

Nothing a little editing can’t help. On the performance side of the fence, the Fonepad Note 6 with its 2.0GHz Intel Atom processor and 2GB of RAM was smooth and snappy even when we were multitasking. It can even handle demanding games such as Dead Trigger 2 and Ridge Racer: Slipstream but had just a little bit of lag here and there. As for battery performance, it managed to last us a good day and a half with moderate use.

Pros

  • Good performance
  • Nice stylus features
  • Large and bright display
  • Affordable
  • Expandable memory

Cons

  • Plastic and glossy body
  • Bulky
