Lenovo Y50-70 Review – When it comes to Lenovo’s laptops, they have always been associated with business. However, over the years, they’ve managed to successfully branch out to other segements and the company’s latest multimedia/gaming notebook, the Lenovo Y50-70 is proof that they can do more.

Being a multimedia and gaming notebook, the Y50-70 is housed in a dark, brushed aluminium chassis that exudes classiness all around. The notebook itself is powered by a 2.5GHz Intel Core i7-4710HQ processor, coupled by up to 16GB of RAM and a 1TB hybrid SSHD that combines both the speed of an SSD and the storage capacity of a HDD all in one component. The Y50-70’s display measures in at about 15.6-inches, and you have the option to either have go with a Full HD display, or the UHD display.

The one Lenovo sent to us was the UHD model, and we must say, it scales quite well to the 15-inch display, and the icons aren’t as tiny as we feared it to be. Performance-wise, the Y50-70 is a powerhorse. Playing back 1080p media is not an issue, and running software and games on it proved to not be an issue either. What we do find to be very impressive is the fact that when we run CPU and GPU intensive tasks, only the rear portion of the Y50-70, where the battery is located heats up. While the laptop’s underbelly can get a bit warm, it’s not prohibitively hot, and it’s great if you plan to have long periods of gaming.

Battery life is the only kink in an otherwise excellent device. Depending on configuration, Lenovo says users should be able to get five hours of battery life on a full charge, however, we only managed to get about three hours.

The Lenovo Y50-70 is an excellent gaming notebook with top-notch specs at mid-range prices. It also comes in multiple configurations so you can choose which model works the best for your needs.
