ASRock Fatal1ty X99X Killer

ASRock Fatal1ty X99X Killer Review – The X99 bandwagon continues to grow, with many motherboard manufacturers now taking advantage of the new Haswell-E’s many features. ASRock reently sent us one of their X99 gaming boards, in the form of the ASRock Fatal1ty X99X Killer.

The X99X Killer motherboards features eight DDR4 DIMMs that are capable of supporting up to 128GB of RAM with speeds of up to 3000+MHz. ASRock is also generous enough to provide users with up to ten SATA III ports, alongside an M.2 SATA port that can support up to M.2 devices that are 110mm in length.

Unlike the other X99 motherboards that we’ve reviewed however, the X99X Killer is only capable of supporting up to triple-way NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFireX multi- GPU configurations. At the back, ASRock has fitted the X99X Killer with eight USB port, six of which are USB 3.0, two LAN ports, one Intel Gigabit Ethernet, and a Killer Ethernet port, together with an e-SATA port and surround sound audio ports. Following in the footsteps of other OEMs as well, ASRock has donned the X99X Killer in what it calls the Gaming Armor, which includes components such as high-density power connectors, gold contacts in DIMM and PCIe slots, Nichicon 12K platinum capacitors, as well as using 2oz copper PCB in the manufacturing of the board itself.

These components help the board to efficiently transfer and utilize electricity, while reducing heat output and improving overall performance. As far as computing performance is concerned, the X99X Killer works great regardless if you’re a PC overclocking enthusiast, gamer or even a professional who works in the multimedia line and is looking for a build that the average enthusiast-grade PC wouldn’t be able to provide. We managed to overclock our Haswell-E PC to about 3.5 to 3.6GHz on air without too many problems.

The ASRock X99X is another great X99 motherboard to consider if you’re looking for an upgrade to the Haswell-E platform. The fact that it only does three-way SLI and CFX should not bother you all too much because everything else it has to offer is pretty much spot-on.
