GIGABYTE X99 Gaming G1 WiFi Review – GIGABYTE arms the X99 Gaming G1 WiFi motherboard with a slew of features that will entice gamers and overclockers Intel’s new X99 Haswell-E processor has components manufacturers excited in making more gaming and enthusiastspec motherboards, and GIGABYTE are also on-board with this revolution, as they unveil their own X99 Intel Extreme motherboard with the GIGABYTE X99 Gaming G1 WiFi motherboard. Getting some things out of the way first, the X99 Gaming G1 features eight DDR4 DIMM slots, which supports up to 64GB of RAM up to 3,000MHz, six SATA 3.0 6Gbps ports, one SATA Express port and one M.2 PCIe connector for M.2 SSDs.

The X99 G1 Gaming also has enough PCIe ports to support up to 4-way NVIDIA SLI or AMD CrossFireX multi-GPU configurations. GIGABYTE is going full-on with their Ultra Durable brand and have equipped the X99 G1 Gaming with a set of brand new components that aim to get the motherboard be just that. The list includes genuine all-digital power design, from International Rectifier which uses 4th generation digital PWM controllers and PowIRstage controllers. These offer incredible precision in delivering power to the motherboard’s power-hungry components, allowing enthusiasts to overclock their Intel Core Extreme Edition CPUs efficiently. One of GIGABYTE’s pride and joy is of course its AMP-UP Audio technology, which allows both audiophiles and gamers to appreciate superior audio quality.

The X99 Gaming G1 comes together with Sound Blaster X Pro Studio software, and utilises components such as the Creative Sound Core3D, bi-polarised audio capacitors and upgradable op-amps to ensure the best audio quality possible. As far as performance goes, the X99 Gaming G1 performs as well as can be expected. At its default clock speed of 3.0GHz, the Intel Core i7-5960X processor performed well at the high 30 degrees Celsius even when our benchmarks were running, and overclocking the CPU to 3.5GHz ran it to around the 50-60 degrees range, which is actually still very good in our books.

The GIGABYTE X99 G1 Gaming is a motherboard if you’re looking to build a system that will last you for years. The motherboard’s passive cooling thanks to the components handpicked by GIGABYTE certainly help to cool things down even if you’re just using an air-cooled heatsink fan.
