The Associated Press has recently reported on the arrest of a pair of gentlemen who were discovered to be attempting to use a drone to fly drugs, tobacco and pornography into a maximum security prison in Maryland.
Apparently, this kind of thing is becoming a bigger and bigger issue for law enforcement and these particular chaps were stopped on the highway nearby the prison. A search of the vehicle found the various aforementioned goods alongside a handgun and in an attempt to stop this practice from happening in the future, the secretary of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services was quoted as saying that he was going to ask for funding for drone detection equipment going forward.
“You can’t make this stuff up,” he was also quoted as saying. Well, you could… But.
“The cartels have been using drones for surveillance. Transporting drugs is a bit more complicated,” said Sylvia Longmire, a leading drug war analyst. “This is further evidence that the cartels have unlimited funds and creativity.”
