Sony A5000

Sony A5000 Review – Looking for a scaled-down camera with all the skills of a DSLR, plus some? This mirrorless compact system cam has speed and connectivity on its side. In fact, it’s one of the smallest and lightest interchangeable lens cameras around, with Wi-Fi and NFC built in for easy pairing with smartphones and speedy upload to social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, and Pinterest.

Sony A5000, Great compact camera if you want better shots than your smartphone

To further ease the transition from phone snaps, its three-inch back screen flips upwards for easy and precise selfie execution. Thanks to the APS-C-sized sensor, the same usually found in DSLRs, image quality is superb and you can even shoot unprocessed Raw files alongside your JPEGs. The excellent 16-50mm Power Zoom lens bundled in can be toggled in and out via a side-mounted switch and it’s self retracting, so takes up less room in your pocket. As the lens is operated electronically, as opposed to manually, zoom on the 1080p videos is smoother and quieter, too. Controls are sparse, but Sony has found room for a pop-up flash, although there’s no hotshoe for attaching a flashgun, external mic or other add-on. The battery does offer 420 shots from a full charge, though, which is more than most rivals like Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX300. There are more versatile compact system cameras out there, but this one’s still a smart option. Sony A5000 is A great upgrade if you want better shots than your current compact camera or smartphone can offer.
