ASUS Vivo PC VM62 Review – The launch of Intel’s 4th generation of computer processors have truly given a lot of people reasons to celebrate. PC manufacturers have also become a lot more creative when it comes to design, and companies like ASUS has decided to go ultra-small with the Vivo PC VM62.

The Vivo PC VM62 looks very reminiscent of Intel’s very own NUC mini computer unit. But what ASUS has done is to elevate it to a much more chic and stylish machine, incorporating a brushed aluminium chassis that house components that don’t look out of place in a mid-tier desktop-sized computer.

Inside, the Vivo PC VM62 is powered by an Intel Core i3-4030U processor, 4GB of RAM and a 2.5-inch 500GB HDD,all of which can be hotswapped with other parts, if you so desire. Out of the box, it runs Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 operating system. The Vivo PC VM62 features the Vivo DualBay, a flexible dual-storage design that allows users to store two 2.5-inch drives or one 3.5-inch drive inside the enclosure, and all you need to access these parts is a Philips-head screwdriver.

As far as I/O ports are concerned, ASUS have been very generous with the Vivo PC VM62 as it comes with one HDMI port, one DisplayPort, six USB ports, four of which are USB 3.0. Also included are 3.5mm audio and microphone ports, an S/ PDIF port, a LAN port as well as an SD card reader.

The Vivo PC VM62 also supports 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0, for those who prefer to have less cables connected to the machine. This ensures that your office space or living room is kept clean from cables, while ensuring that you still get to use the PC to its fullest. As far as performance goes, the Vivo PC VM62 actually works great. ASUS claims that it is capable of playing back up to 4K media, and from our tests, they’re not far from wrong. 720p and 1080p playback is as smooth as butter, although 4K media still lags a fair bit, but that can be fixed if you decide to go for the Intel Core i5 model instead.

The ASUS Vivo PC VM62 is a compact computer that performs great for many general tasks. Use it as a small office PC or change up the storage configuration a bit to have it function as a HTPC. Whatever your choice, this machine does not disappoint.

Pros

  • Great performance
  • Modular parts
