Back then wall plugs require you to plug in a UTP CAT-5 cable on both ends to utilise, but with the Aztech HL117EW, things are about to get a whole lot easier. The HL117EW is a combination of your basic wall plug adapter and a range extender.

Powered by a Qualcomm Atheros AR7420 chipset, this adapter is compliant with IEEE1901 and Homeplug AV, which makes it compatible with many other homeplugs that are already available. This is particularly important, because in order to use the HL117EW at a dead spot in your home or office, you will need to have another wall plug connected to the router.

That wall plug will then send signals through your electrical system, and the HL117EW will then receive it and convert it to Wi-Fi. If you feel more comfortable using a cable to connect your PC to the internet, the HL117EW comes with two RJ-45 ports that you can also use to do so. The system seller of this device however comes in the form of the dual-band wireless frequencies. At the bottom of the HL117EW is a switch that allows to change between 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, in order to reduce wireless interference. As far as security is concerned, you also need not worry as the router has 128-bit hardware encryption, while the wireless connectivity comes with support for WPA, WPA2 and WAP.

In terms of network speeds, the HL117EW is pretty impressive as scores from Speedtest.net showed no drops in terms of internet speeds, when tested with a 5Mbps home line. Thanks to the fact that it supports 802.11a, b, g and n standards, its Wi-Fi range is also quite impressive, as we managed to get a stable connection even outside the house.
