Acer Iconia Tab 7

Acer Iconia Tab 7 Review – The market today has various types of Android tablets, smartphones and phablets. However, in the category of budget phablets, Acer seems to be on the forefront as they are constantly releasing devices for this particular market, and with the Iconia Tab 7, they are continuing that trend with fervour. The device does not look flashy but it does have a stylish aluminium finish on its back, as well as a 7-inch screen that has a resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels.

On the right side of the device there are the volume controls and the power button while the top and bottom has the usual fare of a singular audio port and a micro USB port. One thing users have to worry about with the design however is that the camera slightly bulges out on the back which makes it easy to scratch when placed on a hard surface, which is not a deal breaker but users will definitely want to pay attention to it so it doesn’t get damaged over time.

There are many interesting features on this device which is great for to users who have busy lifestyles such as the ability for you to make and receive calls on this device using a Bluetooth headset. While our test model ran on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box, it received the update to Android 4.4 during our time with it. This is great as it gives users access to the newest features. While there are not many features on this device, it does have decent performance results, with most of the benchmarks scoring at above average. We were able to play quite a handful of games on the device with minimal lag such as Dark Meadows, Asphalt 8 and Galaxy On Fire HD.

The device however has quite a weak audio system and even when the volume was set to maximum, it was still quite soft and we could barely hear anything. The display picture quality however, was great as colours were vivid and the glare wasn’t too overpowering. The same is true with its camera, as the images taken from the camera proved to be decent overall except in certain bright lighting scenarios. Browsing with this device is also a pleasure as navigating through the different web pages were met with sensitive and accurate feedback.

Overall, for the price of this device in comparison with its features and performance, this device is a steal for those looking for a device that has most of the standard features, decent performance, keeps you in the loop with its call functionalities and doesn’t take up too much bag space.

I’m in the market for a phablet for my wife, but I think I will have to pass this one up. I was hoping to find one that is relatively inexpensive, but this one doesn’t sound like it has the audio quality or battery life she’d need. Oh well.
