Dell UltraSharp UP3214Q UHD Monitor Review – More and more display manufacturers have come out with 4K UHD displays, and having played around with a few before, we’ve finally managed to get our hands on Dell’s very own Dell UltraSharp UP32214Q UHD monitor that came out earlier this year.

One things for sure, it’s big, heavy and very colourful. As far as look and feel are concerned, the UP3214Q monitor looks just like any UltraSharp monitor you may have seen for some time now. It’s a very professionallooking 31.5” display with sharp black bezels and a touch panel at the side to access the monitor’s on-screen display options.

At the back, the UP3214Q monitor features a wide variety of display outputs, including HDMI, Mini DisplayPort and DisplayPort 1.2. There are also four USB 3.0 downstream ports at the back, with one USB 3.0 upstream port connecting the downstream ports to the PC. The UP3214Q also has a 6-in-1 card reader. All of which are actually very useful, however the problem comes in the fact that all these ports are located directly at the back of the display, which is very difficult to reach to, especially the USB ports and the card reader.

As the UP32214Q is a 4K monitor, it needs to be noted that the only way for you to make the most out of it is hook up the DisplayPort 1.2 port and cable to a DisplayPort 1.2-compatible GPU, otherwise, at the highest resolution, it will only output the resolution at 30Hz, which can hurt the eyes when you stare at the display for long periods of time.

As far as colour quality is concerned, the UP32214Q is simply superb, as expected of a monitor from the Dell UltraSharp line. Using an IGZO/IPS panel, the colour standards is amazing, as the coverage includes 99 percent of Adobe RGB and 100 percent of sRGB. This means crisp colours, amazing reproduction and hues that would usually be undiscernible when using monitors that simply don’t have the same output capabilities. Not only that, the monitor also has excellent viewing angles, which is important if you’re doing collaborative design work and the monitor isn’t exactly in a good position for other people to see.

The Dell UltraSharp UP32214Q 4K UHD monitor is a display that works great for creatives, be they designers or video editors who will require the display real estate to edit some really high end artworks, photos or videos.
